SEIB has over fifty years of experience in horse insurance starting as South Essex Insurance Brokers in 1963. Horse Insurance is still one of its core offerings, and as a specialist equine insurer, its areas of coverage are widespread.
As well as providing personal equestrian cover, it also includes coverage for equine-related businesses. SEIB’s mantra is excellent customer service through delivering on promises and always trying to exceed expectations. Heavily involved in the Horse sector, SEIB also donates 5% of its commissions to the British Horse Society (BHS).
How does SEIB Compare With Other Leading Horse Insurance Providers?
Customer Feedback and Ratings
SEIB does not have a presence on Feefo or Trustpilot where customers can leave their reviews. Facebook does provide a useful reference for feedback from customers. On the review section of SEIB’s Facebook page, there are plenty of comments that have allowed us to complete part of our SEIB equine insurance review.
The overall feedback on Facebook is positive, with an overall four-star rating. Particularly positive feedback relates to both the payment of claims for veterinary treatment and prompt action when a horse trailer or horse transportation has broken down. The emergency claim and breakdown numbers are easy to find on the SEIB contact page, which is great for existing customers.
Standard Policy Features
SEIB, as a specialist insurer, understands where the vital focus on policy features lies. Vet fees, for example, have a wide range of different limit and excess levels (7) to select from. Maximum coverage is £5,000 per incident and up to £7,500 for colic surgery. SEIB is one of only a couple of providers offering extended colic cover. Public liability of up to £5 million is available through their online quote system. It is one of the highest levels on the market. Up to £20,000 personal accident with £1500 dental cover is also available.
The online quote system is straightforward to navigate: One form covers both standard and veteran horse, and all features are available as there is no premium version of insurance to complicate the user experience.
How Much Does a Horse Insurance Policy Cost from SEIB?
We compared policy quotes from different equine insurers using a standard set of variables; a 7-year old mare, valued at £4,000 used for hacking activities and stabled at a WA16 postcode. The same bolt-ons with closely aligned cover levels apply on all quotes. It included vet’s fees, public liability and personal accident cover.
SEIB came out with the cheapest quote in our research at £49.25 per month and included the following extras and maximum levels:
Public liability: £2,000,000/£250 Excess
Personal accident: £10,000
Saddlery and tack: Up to £1,500/£100 Excess
Permanent loss of use: 75%
Vet’s Fees: £3,000/£250 Excess
Deft, theft or straying cover: included
Equine Policy Strengths
As specialist equine insurers, SEIB has an expert team who are also owners and riders. As such, by understanding the risks involved, SEIB is well placed to impart knowledge that will help correctly tailor a horse insurance policy.
As well as high maximum limits on important policy features like Vet fees and third-party liability, SEIB’s plan was the cheapest that we compared for a standard set of options with a lower risk activity.
As well as horse insurance, as a specialist equine insurer, SEIB provides the following horse-related insurance products to give balanced horse sector coverage.
Personal Equine Insurance
- Horse trailer
- Sport horse
- Equestrian property
Business Equine Insurance
- Livery Yard
